How to Zip your files:

  1. In the Start Menu go to All Programs
  2. Find Power Archiver 2001 (a little submenu should open, choose Power Archiver 2001. It has a little yellow icon that looks like a vise squeezing a box).
  3. When you open the application, you may see a box entitled Configuration. Click OK.
  4. If it asks you if you want to make http://www.powerarchiver.com your home page. Click NO.
  5. If it asks you something regarding associating power archiver with zip files. Click YES. And check the box “Never display this message”
  6. If you get a box titles “Power Archiver Tip of the Day” Click CLOSE.
  7. You should have a window that looks like this:

  1. Now highlight the files you want to put in this archive (i.e. which files you want to “zip” together) and drag them into the white box in the picture above. When you do this a box titled “Drag and Drop” will pop up that looks like this:

  1. Make sure that “Save full folder info” is checked.
  2. Click NEW
  3. This box will default to take you to the Power Archiver folder. You DO NOT want to save your file here. You want to save it to your raidzone, or perhaps the desktop, so you can find it easily. So change this to find your raidzone.

  1. Now that you are certain you will save your file to your raidzone, type in what you would like to name your file. For class it will probably look similar to this (depending on your class prefix, your name, and the labname. If you aren’t sure what this is, check your syllabus or the Announcements section of the class website.)

  1. Make sure the Files of type says “ZIP files” (this is the default)
  2. Click OPEN
  3. Click OK
  4. Now you should see files in the Power Archiver’s window like this:

You can open documents from this window, but websites won’t display properly if you do this. If you want to see what is in your zip file, it’s better to use the Extract button.

  1. Look in your raidzone, or wherever you browsed earlier and you will find your zip file there.
  2. To turn it in for class, open the instructors Raidzone, find and open rtorman and drag it into the hand-in folder (you will NOT be able to open the hand-in folder).

Good job!
